Mahindra BE 6 Review: The Futuristic EV Coupe SUV Reimagining Indian Roads

Mahindra BE 6

The electric vehicle scene in India is picking up pace, especially with Mahindra BE 6, which offers bold styling, powerful performance, and cutting-edge features. The Mahindra BE 6 is equipped with modern technology, making it appealing to both car lovers and contemporary families.

It is indeed a sub-30 lakh rupee EV innovation with so much to offer. In this blog, I present a comprehensive as well as easy to digest guide to this BE 6 SUV.

Grab The Attention Everywhere You Go

The contemporary look Mahindra BE 6 possesses is not parallel in EVs. The BE 6’s aerodynamic coupe-style silhouette, sharply sculpted lines, and sloping roofline is bound to get you attention.

The front is equipped with dramatic LED DRL signatures which, paired with all-LED headlamps and indicators, give a modern look. The sports car styling is echoed at the back as well with the sporty roof spoiler, and a Formula 1–style central reverse light.

Looking at the profile of the SUV, its size stands out noticeably. The SUV certainly dwarfs the Creta, Seltos, and Grand Vitara, but the coupe-roof style gives the SUV a meaner and sportier touch. The BE 6 enhances its visual appeal with the sporty and aggressive styling it features. Moreover, the BE 6 offers striking colors Tango Red, Firestorm Orange, Deep Forest, Stealth Black, and even matte options. Its door handles are flush-fitting, which adds to its sporty style.

Tip: If you do decide to purchase the BE, be careful with matte colors and the piano black color. While they can look premium, they can scratch easily.

An Interior That Places The Driver Front and Center

The cockpit revolves around the driver which can be seen with the overall focus on the BE 6. Cabin and steering features are setup to provide a driver-centric sense of elegance. The steering wheel’s sides are squared off which combined with its shape adds to its sport steering feel. In addition, the aircraft throttle styled gear selector also adds to the unique driver experience.

The upholstery materials are premium, which makes it quite a good deal. The upholstery is dual tone with leatherette and a recycled fabric, and the seats are well-padded, supportive, and designed to hold the head against the headrest. To top it off, the driver’s seat is power-adjustable with a memory function which provides the ability to preset and save positions.

Mood setting is done with ambient lighting alongside toggle switches resembling those on fighter jets and cloth door handles. There are also practical features such as cooled deep storage, multiple phone holders with wireless charging, USB type C charging ports for all passengers, a cooled glove compartment, and strategically placed bottle holders.

There is enough space in the trunk for weekend bags and the frunk has extra space for chargers and laptops.

Tech and Infotainment

  • The BE 6 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of technology features, including:
  • The three screens consist of an AR head-up display (available on higher variants), a 12.3-inch center infotainment and the driver’s instrumentation.
  • BYOD rear seat screens enable streaming and infotainment, provides integration with Alexa, ChatGPT, OTT and supports wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.
  • The moonroof and interior glass have an adjustable lighting system and the groove me feature, where all lights in the car are synced to music is super cool.
  • For added safety and convenience, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system is also equippe,d alongside a 360-degree camera that has dashcam and selfie features, and the car has full auto-park.

Performance and Driving Experience

The BE 6 has a rear-wheel drive which is subject to change in the future, two battery size options 59 kWh(230PS) & 79 kWh(285PS) and is built on the INGLO platform.

  • ARAI claimed mileage is 557 to 683 km while real world tests yield 400 to 550 km depending on battery size and driving habits.
  • Luxury cars that cost several times more cannot be compared to the BE 6 which has a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds with a 79 kWh battery and a top speed of 202 km/h.
  • With Range, Everyday and Race modes, the BE 6 offers a tailored driving experience as well as themed animations and ambience inside the car.
  • As with the previous two modes, the car also offers a One Pedal drive mode which is super useful in traffic.

The BE 6 has a balanced mix of comfort and sportiness which makes loose to firm suspension comfortable, while the optional 20 inch wheels may stiffen the ride.

Safety and ADAS

Mahindra hasn’t skimped on safety. Depending on the variant, the BE 6 offers:

  • 6 or 7 airbags,
  • ABS & EBD,
  • Hill-hold,
  • Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) including emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, and driver monitoring.
  • 360-degree camera surveillance that monitors even when parked.

Charging and Running Costs

The BE 6 can recharge from 0 to 80% in roughly 20 minutes with 140 kW DC fast charging, making it perfect for busy schedules. Home AC charging takes between 6 to 8.7 hours based on the specific charger used. There are options for dual battery packs, giving users the flexibility of choosing between price or range.

Pricing, Variants, and Value

The BE 6 variants are organized into Pack One, Pack Two, and Pack Three with increasing features and performance. Ex-showroom pricing starts at ₹ 18.90 lakh and goes up to ₹27.65 lakh, which is great value for the tech and performance offered.

The Above Pack One variant is the sweet spot in value for features, while Pack Three is fully loaded with everything from Mahindra including panoramic glass roof, 19 or 20 inch alloys, and the complete ADAS suite.

Competing models are Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, Tata Curvv EV, and Hyundai Creta Electric. None of the other models come with this level of style, tech, and sheer excitement at the price.
